The Basement: Vinyl Plank Flooring Installation

If you have read any of our other posts about home renovations, you may have seen images of the beautiful (read: ugly) white tile with gold flecks in it. We decided that it was time to replace the white-gold tiles; it was really the last piece to "finish" the basement. (In reality renovations are never finished.) It was agreed that we would change it this summer when we transitioned into a new lease, while of course hoping that our tenants (who are wonderful!) stay. But then something magical happened, all three of our tenants were away on vacation for the whole weekend after new years, and we were free to put in new flooring.

The boys started on the floor on Friday. We decided on the vinyl click and lock flooring from our local Timber Town (Brand: Easystreet, style: Marmot Basin), and only have wonderful things to say about the product. By Friday night they had flooring all the way up to the end of the kitchen, leaving a small hallway and an awkward entrance area to put in the next day. My dad kept saying, "it's like putting together lego!", and it really was. Once they got going it went down fast.

Saturday was a bit of a different story. Every board needed to be cut at an angle, and there were all sorts of awkward nooks to customize to. They did an amazing job despite the work being nit picky, and they did it really fast! We also ended up having such good luck with the spacing, that we had very little waste and were able to return 5/25 boxes!

The obligatory before and after shot:

Goodbye white-gold tiles!
